Gaston J. Ouellet
I’d like to start by telling you a little about myself and how I came to rediscover the virtues.
I was born in Quebec. As a child, I was raised by nuns in an orphanage and then lived in many foster homes until the age of 16 when I was thrown out on the street. At the age of 18, I had a serious accident that left me with a disability. During this dramatic event, I never had anyone to lean on to overcome this huge trauma. It was then that I remembered and rediscovered what my mentors had carefully placed in my heart: the importance of virtues and the roles they play in our lives.
I traveled and lived in many places around the world before reaching Maui Hawaii, where I raised my four children. While raising my children on this remote island, I began to write my book. I was fortunate to experience the beautiful Hawaiian culture which inspired me to found HulaHU and create KaHUna. VirtHU was created in Quebec Canada and Karma Buster in Laos. These three spiritual and educational fun games led me to my life’s mission: to bring forth noble virtues into the hearts of children around the world.
Because of my life’s journey, the virtue that has required the most from me for a long time is inevitably Detachment. You can learn more about my difficulties in living detachment by reading my book Listening Contemplating Loving.
